Newborn Photography FAQs
The sweet spot for those sleepy, curly newborn portraits is within the first 5 to 14 days after birth. During this two-week window, babies sleep deeply and naturally retain their womb-like flexibility. If your baby is already older than two weeks, please don’t worry! We happily capture beautiful, awake portraits of older babies as well
We secure your booking based on your estimated due date. Once you pay your session fee, your booking is officially locked into our calendar. Because babies rarely arrive on time, we only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month. This ensures we have total flexibility to agree on a suitable date once your baby makes their grand entrance.
Your baby’s safety is our absolute highest priority. We are fully trained in safe, physiological newborn handling. Our Chipping Norton studio is kept beautifully warm, all props are thoroughly sanitised before use, and we never force a baby into a pose. We work strictly at your baby’s pace.
Please do not stress—our newborn sessions are entirely baby-led! We allocate up to four hours for newborn shoots precisely so there is no rush. There is plenty of time to pause for feeding, cuddling, nappy changes, and soothing. A crying or awake baby will never ruin a session; we have years of experience soothing newborns and keeping the environment completely calm so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the experience. A stress free mum usually makes for a happy baby.
Yes, we encourage mummy, daddy and siblings to be part of this session to capture the loving bond between family and baby
We understand that mummies don’t always want to leave their own homes when they have just given birth, so we can come to you in the comfort of your own home or you can come to our Cotswold studio located in Chipping Norton. If we are coming to you please don’t feel the need to tidy and please feel comfortable to curl up in your pyjamas and watch TV. If you are coming to us, there are plenty of hot drinks, snacks and comfy arm chairs for a snooze. Feel free to bring something to read or do.
No, we provide all of the clothes, accessories and props. We work with some fantastic prop and wool suppliers to make sure your newborn baby’s skin only touches the softest quality materials. If there is a special item of clothing, special blanket or wedding rings that you would like to include please remember to bring them with you.

Safety
Working as a couple ensures an added level of safety at your baby photoshoot: whilst Ian takes the photographs, Pamila has both hands free to pose and spot your precious baby.
We have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Your child’s comfort and safety is our top priority. We use composite images where appropriate. Cotswold Fine Photos take very seriously your baby’s safety and understand everything about hygiene, heating and baby handling needed to ensure the safety and comfort of the baby during the photo session. Pamila has also attended a two day Paediatric First Aid Course with the British Red Cross.
As a newborn and baby photographer we have to take the safety of our little clients very seriously. It might surprise you to know that the newborn photography industry is completely unregulated. Photographers like us who take safety seriously have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure the beautiful images we create are done safely.

A newborn photoshoot is a wonderful idea for a gift. Whether it is for a maternity, newborn, sitter, first birthday or family session you can be assured that we will create some beautiful artwork that the recipient will treasure for generations. To purchase a gift voucher for friends or family simply select the session that you would like to buy for them and proceed to pay for the session fee or you can use this link. If you would also like to purchase print credit for them please send us an email so that we can invoice you accordingly. You have the option to receive a PDF voucher via email or a printed one in the post (please allow 7 to 10 working days). NB. Please provide the recipients name and your choice of PDF/print in the notes section of the payment screen.
