FAQs
Are parents and siblings included in the newborn photoshoot?
Yes, we encourage mummy, daddy and siblings to be part of this session to capture the loving bond between family and baby. For these photos parents are asked to be wearing neutral coloured tops.
Where does the newborn photoshoot take place?
We understand that mummies don’t always want to leave their own homes when they have just given birth, so we can come to you in the comfort of your own home or you can come to our Cotswold studio located 2 miles south of Chipping Norton. If we are coming to you please don’t feel the need to tidy and please feel comfortable to curl up in your pyjamas and watch TV. If you are coming to us, there are plenty of hot drinks, snacks and a comfy sofa for a snooze. Feel free to bring something to read or do.
How long does a newborn photoshoot last?
It depends entirely on each baby. We always advise parents to allocate 4 hours to allow plenty of time for comforting and feeding so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your experience. A stress free mum usually makes for a happy baby.
Do I need to prepare my baby in any way?
Some babies love a warm bath, and that might help them to relax. Otherwise, we just ask for you to relax. There’s plenty of time for feeding and cuddling during the session.
Do I need to provide any clothes or accessories?
No, we provide all of the clothes, accessories and props. We work with some fantastic prop and wool suppliers to make sure your newborn baby’s skin only touches the softest quality materials. If there is a special item of clothing, special blanket or wedding rings that you would like to include please remember to bring them with you.
How does it work?
Newborn photos are taken with the babies in a deep sleep with props and backgrounds. We devise a work flow to minimise disturbing your baby’s sleep. Many of the poses mimic the position they were in in the womb. They won’t even notice they’re being photographed. We need to keep the room at around 26 ̊C as your newborn baby cannot yet regulate their own body temperature and will be spending a lot of the photoshoot unclothed or just wrapped in blankets. All babies wee and poo. It will happen on blankets, props and even on us! Please don’t worry or be embarrassed – blankets, props and our clothes are always washed after each session.
What to be aware of?
It is important that baby is having a good day. Children do best in front of the camera when they are rested and feeling well. In the case of any discomfort please call to rebook. A healthy child is a happy child. Please also inform us of any allergies, skin sensitivity or difficulties at birth.
When is the best time to book?
The earlier the better. We are limited to the number of shoots we can do a week so we normally recommend calling us while you’re still pregnant so that we can reserve you a time around your due date. The ideal time to photograph your baby is within the first 20 days. Most of the time the younger the baby the more easily the baby will go into deep sleep allowing them to be posed more safely and easily.
